How do you ski through the bumps with control?
Buckle skiing is one of the most exciting sensations in Alpine skiing, and at the same time one of the most challenging.
This is a personal focus of mine: The legs provide control through an extension and retraction movement.
By swallowing the bump, you absorb it (otherwise you would be catapulted into the air). The point of maximum absorption is at the top of the hump: the legs bend towards the body and the hip is sometimes even lower than the knees, with the thighs almost touching the chest.
When the legs bend to absorb the pressure, the body crosses over the skis. A blocking pole plant on top or over the bump stabilises the upper body in the process. This ensures that the body can move efficiently over the skis and then dive back into the new turn.
Have fun!
